The 2008 Tapestry Conference was a tremendous success, with nearly 400 adults in attendance. We invite you to join us next year at the 2009 Tapestry Conference on Saturday, October 24th, at Irving Bible Church. In the meantime, you can download the 2008 Tapestry Conference Notebook, full of great adoption and foster care information and resources, or purchase CDs and DVDs of most of the 2008 conference sessions at avmediaplace.com.
Childcare for the Tapestry Conference
Safety & Security
At Irving Bible Church, the safety of your child is a high priority. For this reason, all classrooms use ibcLink for security. When you check your child in you will be asked to provide the last four digits of the phone number that you use when you register. You will then be provided with a name tag for your child and a corresponding pick-up tag. When you return you will need to present the pick-up tag to the teacher.
All Kids Klub workers have been through an application process. Their teacher nametag tells you that they have completed the process. This process includes an extensive application, reference checks, a background check and an interview.
Food for Children
All children over the age of 2 will be provided the following snacks and lunch during the conference:
- Lunch - CiCi's pizza and juice box
- Snacks - bananas, nilla wafers, pretzels, goldfish and water
If your child is under the age of 2 or if your child has any allergies or aversions to the above foods or beverages, please be sure to send appropriate snacks, lunch and/or beverages along with instructions (if necessary). Please note that Irving Bible Church’s children’s areas are peanut free, so we ask that you do not send any food items that contain peanuts or peanut butter.
Cost
The conference is free – hooray! We are passionate about providing people with resources, support, guidance, community, and hope surrounding their adoption and foster journeys. So, we’re just gitty about being able to provide admission, childcare, breakfast, lunch, and a stack (literally) of resources at no cost.
Sound too good to be true? Well it’s not. But, you may be asking, “How can you do this for free?” Good question. Tapestry is a ministry of Irving Bible Church, so some of our funds come from IBC, while others come from families who are passionate about adoption and foster care, and believe that local churches should play a unique and critical role. If you have this same passion and want to help support our ministry financially so that we can continue to provide future events and opportunities to connect like this conference, please email us at tapestry@irvingbible.org. You will also have an opportunity to make a financial contribution at the Tapestry Conference – but of course there is no pressure to do so.
Cancellations
Because space at the conference is limited for both adults and children, it is very important that we receive any cancellations no later than one week before the conference date (i.e., October 18). This will allow us to offer your space(s) to those on our waiting list and ensure that we do not incur any unnecessary expenses. Cancellations after that date will likely result in "wasted" space and costs. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this cancellation policy.
To cancel your registration (including your childcare registration) contact Amy Monroe at tapestry@irvingbible.org.
Conference Resources
Most foster parents can count this conference toward their required continuing education training. At the end of the day, we will provide every foster parent with a certificate of attendance as documentation for their agency or CPS.
We are recording audio from most of the breakout sessions this year! We will be recording almost every breakout session and at the end of the day you can purchase CDs of these sessions for nominal cost.
Everyone who attends the Tapestry Conference will receive a conference notebook. The notebook contains notes, articles and resources from every session at the conference. You can also download the materials from last year’s conference and see what we are talking about. The PDF is just over 9MB, so it may take up to 30 seconds to download (even longer if you’re on a dial-up connection).
The Tapestry Conference is open to the public.
- You do not need to be a member of IBC or even attend there.
- You do not need to be an adoptive or foster parent.
- You do not need to be a Christian or even a church-going person.
